Jack Russell Terrier Breed Story Hunting Features
The dogs got their name from a real person – Jack Russell, a pastor in the county of Devonshire, which was located in the south-west of England. In the 19th century, honorable citizens were engaged in fox hunting, and Pastor Russell decided to start a hunting terrier so that the hunt would be most successful. He was 20 years old, and he did not even suspect that this event would turn over not only his life, but also the entire history of dog breeding, because selling dogs Jack Russell Terrier at the moment is a profitable occupation.
To this day, dog breeders do not understand exactly by which crosses this breed was obtained. There are only assumptions, some of which are very convincing, but not reliable.
It is known that the pastor, in spite of the priesthood, was engaged in his beloved dogs for 65 years. He wanted to bring out such a terrier that could accompany the hounds on the hunt, and also have the strength to participate in the persecution, which is not the easiest task.
The “ideal” dog could have looked like anything; Jack Russell did not care about its appearance at all. The pastor was sure that some external characteristics, whether it was coat color or head structure, did not affect the hunting qualities of the dog.
It was understood that a dog obtained by crossbreeding should:
maneuver in narrow holes
have a good grip
it’s great to hear, but at the same time have such an auditory wire that debris would not get into.
It is these qualities that the Russell Terrier possesses, because this breed of dog has always felt the beast and was not afraid of it. The pastor himself spoke of his dogs with special tenderness, comparing them with wild roses, which, perhaps, lack a certain grace, but nevertheless are more natural and charming than those that are grown at home.
